CRAWFORD CREEK - 7.0 MW
Crawford Creek is a tributary to the Mamquam River located directly adjacent to Raffuse Creek and 19 km from the Squamish substation. The project is located in the Coast Mountain range and is in a temperate rainforest geoclimatic zone. Crawford Creek is scheduled for development as part of a multi-project submission to BC Hydro's next call for power.
Crawford Creek captures a drainage area of approximately 23 square kilometres. The project design flow of 4.1 cumecs would produce approximately 30,000 MWh of green energy per annum. The project consists of an intake at 755m which feeds a 5,100m penstock, with 240m of head delivering enough water pressure to drive a 7.0 MW plant capacity.
As with Raffuse Creek, Crawford Creek also lies within the Squamish Nation traditional territory and would benefit from Run of River's relationship with them. Combining multiple projects into a single process would reduce timelines and equipment costs would be reduced by orders of magnitude. Construction savings would be realized by efficiencies of scheduling and performance of similar tasks from one project to the next.
In addition, the Crawford feeder
would join the Canadian Hydro 69 kV powerline as it winds along the Mamquam FSR,
eliminating the need for a second (or third) line to the Squamish Substation.
This again would provide substantial savings to the project as well as address
visual impact concerns prevalent in the SLRD.
