Skookum Power Project - Contracted

The Skookum Power Project is a 25 MW run-of-river hydro-electricity project that is located 11 kilometres east of Squamish in the Squamish Lillooet Regional District on Skookum Creek, a tributary that flows into the Mamquam River basin. It will deliver about 87 GWh of clean, renewable electricity to BC Hydro – enough clean, renewable electricity to power some 8,400 homes a year.

The project will use a low intake weir and rely on the natural grade and flow of the river.  A portion of the flow will be diverted into a penstock, which conveys the water to a downstream powerhouse where the power will be generated.

The project will offset 33,264 tonnes CO2/yr compared with new combined cycle gas turbine generation, or 71,425 tonnes CO2/yr compared with coal fired turbine generation.

In addition to creating clean, renewable power, the Skookum Power Project will create a range of economic benefits for the Squamish area, including supplies and services, new jobs, opportunities for local businesses and a new tax base.
